Where to start
Blue Compass RV Santee is the biggest stop, with 247 reviews and a 4.7 rating, plus new and used motorhomes and travel trailers. It also has service and parts on site, which matters when you need a walk-through or a fix before your first trip. Mackey Motors is smaller, 34 reviews and 4.8, and handles used motorhomes and travel trailers along with consignment. Js RV Sales & Service has a 4.5 rating and focuses on used motorhomes with service and delivery. Start with the lot that has the type you want, then branch out.
Used is the norm
All three Santee dealers list used inventory, and only Blue Compass shows new units. That means you are mostly shopping pre-owned coaches and trailers here, which can be a good value if you do your homework. Ask for maintenance records and a pre-purchase inspection from a shop that is not tied to the seller. I skipped that step once and paid for it later. Two of the three dealers offer financing, but getting pre-approved at your own bank first gives you a baseline and some bargaining room. Off-season shopping can also help you avoid the spring rush.
Beyond the lot
Santee sits close to several places worth a shakedown trip after you buy. You can test your new rig at a nearby lake or head toward the mountains for a weekend. The point is to try everything while you are still close to the dealer, from the water system to the awning, before you venture farther. If something needs attention, Js offers delivery and Blue Compass has a service department, so ask about scheduling any fixes before you drive off. A careful walk-through at delivery is your best chance to catch small issues while they are still the dealer's problem.
